Indoor Mode – Keep running in winter with treadmill mode

Looking for a treadmill running app for iOS?

Not every run happens outside. However, that doesn’t mean your training schedule has to stop. Winter running can be beautiful, but sometimes it’s too dark, too icy or simply not practical.

With Indoor Mode, Run Trainer works as a treadmill running app that keeps your training schedule active, even without GPS.

When do you use treadmill mode?

Indoor running is ideal when conditions outside are not in your favor. For example:

  • It’s winter and the roads are slippery
  • You prefer controlled pace training
  • You’re traveling and only have access to a hotel gym
  • It’s too hot or unsafe to run outside
  • You want to focus purely on intervals without traffic interruptions

Instead of skipping sessions, you simply switch to treadmill mode and continue your running plan.

How Indoor Mode works inside the Run Trainer app

Indoor mode is designed to be simple and fast.

1. Switch from outdoor to indoor

Before starting your run, tap the button that shows “Outdoor” and select “Indoor”. Then start your training as usual.

Because GPS does not work on a treadmill, distance cannot be tracked automatically. However, your training schedule, intervals and voice guidance remain fully active.

You follow your guided run exactly as you would outside.

2. Enter your treadmill distance

After completing your session, the app asks for the distance shown on your treadmill. Once entered, we calculate the rest.

As a result, your statistics stay accurate and your progress continues without interruption.

This includes:

  • Updated total distance
  • Logged training time
  • Achievement progress
  • Schedule continuation

The only feature that requires GPS is the Speedmap visualization. Everything else works exactly like a normal outdoor run.

A treadmill running app that works with your schedule

Many running apps rely entirely on GPS tracking. When GPS stops, progress often stops as well.

Run Trainer works differently.

Your training plan continues.
At the same time, sessions remain structured.
Meanwhile, voice coaching keeps guiding you step by step.

Whether you’re following Couch to 5K or training for a half marathon, you simply resume your schedule indoors and keep building momentum.

Can I still earn achievements and track stats?

Yes, absolutely.

Indoor runs still count toward your:

  • Total distance
  • Time trained
  • Completed sessions
  • Earned achievements
  • Overall schedule progress

Although route mapping requires GPS, all core training data remains intact.

Perfect for winter running

During winter months, consistency becomes more important than intensity. Ice, darkness and cold wind can easily break momentum.

With treadmill mode, however, your rhythm stays intact. Instead of losing weeks of progress, you continue training safely indoors.

Indoor Mode makes Run Trainer a complete running app for both outdoor and treadmill training.

Who is Indoor Mode for?

Indoor Mode is ideal if you:

  • Train year-round
  • Don’t want winter interruptions
  • Follow structured interval training
  • Use hotel gyms while traveling
  • Want a running app that works without GPS

If you are searching for a treadmill running app for iOS that supports real training schedules, Run Trainer gives you that structure.
